A compilation of 24 William Ruto quotes on transforming Kenya.
William Ruto, born on December 21, 1966, is a Kenyan politician who has served as Kenya’s Deputy President since April 2013.
Ruto began his political career as the treasurer of the YK’92 campaign group, which was lobbying for President Moi’s re-election in 1992, where he learned the ins and outs of Kenyan politics.
Ruto ran for a parliamentary seat in Kenya in the 1997 general election. He unexpectedly defeated the incumbent, Reuben Chesire, who was Moi’s preferred choice. Following this, he gained Moi’s respect and was appointed KANU Director of Elections.
His unwavering support for Moi’s projected successor, Uhuru Kenyatta, earned him a position as an assistant minister in the Home Affairs (Interior) ministry department in 2002. Later in the election, as some government ministers resigned to join the opposition, he was promoted to full Cabinet Minister.
On March 15, 2022, Ruto was endorsed as the UDA‘s presidential candidate for Kenya’s presidential election in August 2022 .
