Who was Stephen Hawking?

Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, England. He was one of four children born to Frank and Isobel Hawking. From an early age, Stephen showed a passion for science and mathematics.

He attended St. Albans School, where he excelled in his studies. In 1959, Stephen entered University College, Oxford, where he studied physics.

In 1963, Stephen was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neuron disease, which resulted in him being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Despite this, Stephen continued his studies and in 1966, he was awarded a PhD in cosmology.

The disease slowly paralyzed his body, but left the mind unaffected. Hawking was given two years to live, but he defied the odds and survived for more than fifty years.

Hawking’s work on black holes and the origin of the universe has made him one of the most renowned scientists of our time. He authored several bestselling books, including A Brief History of Time and The Grand Design.

He was awarded numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Wolf Prize in Physics.
