Michelle Pfeiffer (born April 29, 1958) is an American actress. She was a prolific performer whose screen career spanned four decades, becoming one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars during the 1980s and 1990s, as well as one of the era’s most prominent sex symbols.
She has received numerous honors, including a Golden Globe Award and a British Academy Film Award, as well as nominations for three Academy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award. She was honored with a motion picture star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
Pfeiffer’s acting career began with minor television and film roles before landing her first major leading role in the critically and commercially unsuccessful Grease 2 (1982). Dissatisfied with being typecast in unremarkable roles as attractive women, she actively sought out more challenging material, landing her breakthrough role as Elvira Hancock in Scarface in 1983.
She went on to star in The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Tequila Sunrise, and Married to the Mob (both 1988), for which she received her first of six consecutive Golden Globe nominations.
