Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a log cabin in Kentucky. He was the 16th president of the United States, serving from 1861 to 1865. Lincoln is best known for leading the country through the American Civil War and for his abolitionist views. He was assassinated in 1865.

In 1860, Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate for president. He ran against Democrat Stephen Douglas.  He  won the election and became the 16th president of the United States.

Lincoln was a great president. He led the country through the Civil War and freed the slaves. He also helped to rebuild the country after the war. He  was assassinated on April 14th, 1865, and is now considered one of the greatest presidents in American history.
